The Career Development Center recently hosted a Speed Networking Career Fair for any student currently enrolled at Centenary.
Students and employers gathered in the Lackland Center on March 26.
The tables were set. The fancy business clothing was on.
More than 20 employers visited the college, interacting and sharing information with students.
Employers included:
Arc of Morris County
Capitol Care
Clozetivity of North Jersey
FBI
First Hope Bank
Hunterdon County Office Of Temporary Assistance
Morris County Youth Culture
Morris County Juvenile Services
Morris Sheriff's Department Bureau of Corrections
New Jersey State Police
Rudolph Research Analytical
RWJBH
State of NJ Judiciary - Morris and Sussex Vicinage
Warren County Prosecutor's Office
Wayfare Counseling
More than 25 students attended this event.
“I am very happy the event grew from last year. Last year we had 18 students, our first year doing this. This year we have 24. We were in the Student Activities Center last year. Now, we’re here, because it's grown,” said Nancy Podesta, career coach, employment development specialist, and career fair coordinator.
The Speed Networking event was broken into two parts.
The first half of the event included one-on-one interviews with employers. For three minutes, students and employers interacted, sharing mutual information about one another. When time expired, students would rotate employers.
The second part was your typical networking event set up.
Food and drinks were provided as students now had no time frame and could talk with any future employer.
“It was a great opportunity to network with different businesses. Many have good opportunities for people my age group and graduating seniors as well,” said Kayla Sampong, a junior majoring in finance.
This event brought back many alumni as mentors for those graduating seniors looking to land a job.
Employers such as Morris County Office of Temporary Assistance shared how they have benefited from visiting the college.
“This is our third year here. We do have current staff that we have met at Centenary. We love coming and finding some really great employees. It definitely shows a lot with the education being provided for these students, because they bring those things back into the working environment.”
