Will Boothe was an inaugural member and former sports writer and editor of The Cyclone Chronicle from Fall 2023 to Fall 2024.
I am currently attending County College of Morris in the Liberal Arts Animation program. This semester, I am taking Drawing I (ART 122) with Professor David Ryan and 2D Design (ART 130) with Professor Keith Smith. This is part of my plan to become a graphic design/cartoonist.
When I began attending Centenary, I originally wanted to pursue graphic design. The graphic design major was dropped before I began my freshmen year, so I moved to the Communication major with a minor in Film/Radio/TV. Attending Centenary’s Drawing I class and working as an artist for the Cyclone Chronicle newspaper allowed me to begin training towards my goal of becoming a graphic designer/cartoonist.
I advise seniors and the underclassmen at Centenary never to compare themselves to others, regardless of how easy it could be.
After I left Centenary, I applied to the Kubert School of Cartooning so I could pursue my goal big time. As part of the application, I was required to show the interviewer my art portfolio, in which no more than three of my art pieces can be older than three years ago.
Most of my best art pieces were from four years ago, and I was kicked out of the school after I finished the interview because I needed years of art class to get into the school.
The problem is that I literally couldn’t take art classes at Centenary because the graphic design major was dropped before I even began my freshmen year, and even then, the Drawing I class I attended at Centenary was only an elective. So I enrolled in CCM to straighten up.
As hard as it was working with the Cyclone Chronicle newspaper and attending Centenary, I’m glad to have attended Centenary during the past four years.
