Welcome back to the Chronicle Critters, featuring the furry, the scaly, and the feathery! In this edition, you’ll find the companions of Centenary’s very own staff.

First up is Emmett from owner Matthew Mendres, assistant professor of communication.

Turning four in May, Emmett is a Havanese and the only dog Professor Mendres knows who isn't a morning person. Professor Mendres even has to wake HIM up. Emmett, unlike some dogs, isn’t afraid of thunder. In fact, he gets angry at it, running from window to window, barking at whatever is making all that noise outside.

Second is Tam from Kristen Straut, university registrar.

This border collie, Tam, is named after the Robert Burns poem Tam O'Shanter. Tam is a ball-obsessed, walk-loving, tummy-rub loving cutie patootie, who’s 15 and a half. Tam goes by two names: Tam and The Kraken.

Next up are Cannoli and Roux, the two furry companions of Cheryl Veronda, Dean of the School of Business, Media and Writing.

Cannoli is a 6-year-old Parson Russell Terrier, who was born just after her parents were rescued from a hoarding situation. Her parents weren’t the only puppers saved, there were 186 other dogs reduced from the horrific situation. Cannoli is speedy and athletic, so naturally she loves to play fetch.
Roux. (Photo by owner Cheryl Veronda)
This mellow fellow is Roux. He is a 5-year-old orange tabby rescued all the way from Houston, Texas, over 1,500 miles away. Roux spends his days lounging and loves a good lap to curl up on.

Last, but not least, is Eevee, the pup of Janet Zatta, adjunct professor of writing and advisor to The Cyclone Chronicle.

Now this isn’t Eevee’s first time in The Cyclone Chronicle; she’s been featured before in “11th Hour Rescue's Puptoberfest Shares Ties With Centenary”. You can learn more about how Professor Zatta fell in love with this sleek gray pittie and Eevee’s story there. But for now, let’s hear what Zatta has to say about her furbaby.
“This is sweet Eevee,” said Zatta. “She is the ‘next dog.’ The one you search for after your heart dog crosses the Rainbow Bridge. The one who looks completely different. The one you hope that you can ‘do this again’ with. The one that you choose, not the one who arrived at your doorstep, uninvited, by your college-age kid. The one who needed a home to a home that needed a dog. The one you hope will love you with all her heart. Thank you, sweet Eevee, for checking all the boxes. Now making my home hers, she loves demolishing plushies, adores chasing balls, and in true pittie fashion, is happiest when sunbathing or snuggling. Thanks, again, to Eleventh Hour Rescue in Randolph, NJ, for tirelessly searching for homes for furbabies who need a second chance.”
