St. Patrick’s Day is a day that people traditionally make meals like corned beef and cabbage, go to parades, and wear green to avoid getting pinched. For people like me who would rather starve than eat that salty slab of beef and slimy cabbage, this list of games is for you. This year, don’t worry about wearing green, and fill your time with these five games.

Assassin’s Creed is a series known for traveling around the world and introducing many compelling characters. There’s two entries in the series that have ties to Ireland: Assassin’s Creed Rogue and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Wrath of the Druids DLC.

In Assassin’s Creed Rogue, the seventh installment to the franchise, you play as an Irish-American privateer who is a member of the Brotherhood. This installment plays like any other Assassin’s Creed game and has a rather complex character you can’t help but root for. Many of the songs in Assassin’s Creed Rogue have roots in Irish folk songs and bring a different type of life to this game.
Assassin’s Creed Rogue was released in March 2015 and developed by Ubisoft Sofia. This single-player experience takes roughly 12 to 50 hours, depending on your dedication to uncovering every little detail. You can dive into the 1750’s and play Assassin’s Creed Rogue on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Windows, and Steam.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Wrath of the Druids DLC is an expansion of the original base game, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. This downloadable content (DLC) has a setting in Ireland. You travel there and get to experience Ireland’s culture and history first-hand. Keep in mind, you do have to play the base game before being able to access the Wrath of the Druids DLC.
Take on this single-player adventure and get to see 9th-century Ireland. The Wrath of the Druids DLC was released in December 2022 and developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux. The DLC adds an additional 10 to 15 hours to the 50 to 60 hours it takes to complete Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. You can try out this DLC on Steam, PlayStation, Windows, and Xbox.
Both of these Assassin’s Creed games have elements that tie them to Ireland, just like most of the games to follow in this list. If a stealth fighting game isn’t your style, and you prefer a story-driven exploration game, this next game might be for you.

Instead of four heart-shaped leaves, you can play as a six-sided die in Dicey Dungeons. This game is set in Doolin, located in the Netherworld, a fairy realm inspired by Celtic mythology. You play as one of the two protagonists, Ellen or Keats, and investigate the weird occurrences happening in the village.
This little gem from developer Distractionware is available on PlayStation, Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and Mobile. Dicey Dungeons was released in August 2019 and is a single-player action-adventure game. It’ll take you roughly 27 hours to complete.
Dicey Dungeons is cartoonish fun mixed with the Final Fantasy franchise, but set in Celtic myths. Its unique look and feel come from its Irish roots.

Clan O’Conall and the Crown of the Stag is a game centered around a trio of Irish characters that fend off creatures from Celtic myths. Each character has their own unique abilities that cater to the fast-paced experience. Clan O’Conall and the Crown of the Stag is a good mixture of platforming, puzzle solving, and combat.
Available on Windows, Steam, and Nintendo Switch, Clan O’Conall and the Crown of the Stag was developed by HitGrab and released in April 2021. This mythical experience is single-player and takes about eight hours of dedication.
The best part of Clan O’Conall and the Crown of the Stag is the colorful atmosphere and environments that go hand in hand with the Celtic theme. While seasoned platformer players may find this game simple, it’s still a charming way to spend your St. Patrick’s Day.
