Welcome back, Cyclones!
The excitement of a new semester’s opportunities often gets tangled with a severe sense of anxiety. What if I can’t keep up in my classes? How can I balance the demands of my courses, clubs, and job? What if my roommate is nuts?
Luckily, there are dozens of resources on campus to support you on your journey to greatness this semester!
The Wellness Center
Located in the yellow Victorian house at 605 Grand Avenue, the Health and Wellness Center is staffed by a nurse practitioner, a physician, a registered nurse, and counselors.
Their services include education and programming, preventative care, routine physical exams, emergency and standard contraception, immunizations, and more. True emergencies are taken as walk-ins; other visits are welcome by appointment.
Peer and Faculty Tutors
Tutoring is available for every level course and content comfort level. The Tutoring Center is on the first floor of the Seay building and offers services for undergraduate and graduate students. They can also provide to-do list templates, weekly planners, and materials on effective note-taking, study strategies, and test-taking tips.
The Writing Collaboratory is in the lower level of the Taylor Memorial Library. Collab tutors specialize in every form of writing, from resumes to presentations, to standard essays. They are trained in MLA, APA, and AP styles. Each tutor has different specialties and backgrounds of study. They are available for walk-ins, in-person and online appointments, and workshops!
The Tutoring Center and the Writing Collab can also be used as a quiet study space!
Resident Assistants
RAs are here to lend a helping hand and listening ear for any and everything. Need to rant about your breakup? Got locked out of your dorm? Looking for information about upcoming events on campus? Your RA has you covered.
Your RA is a resource for emotional, social, and security support. They can be found in your dorm building and the Student Life Office.
RAs also host two programs a month for their building. From open mics to game nights to study sessions, there’s always something to look forward to.
Office of Career Development
The Office of Career Development, situated in the Harris and Betts Smith Learning Center, helps students and alumni forge their chosen career. Through resume advice, mock interviews, skill development programming, and remarkable events like Dress for Success, you can’t go wrong with the Office of Career Development by your side.
The Office for Career Development has a 90% success rate in connecting students with internships and jobs. Some of the organizations Centenary graduates have worked for include Mars, the Atlantic Health System, and the Secret Service!
The Office for Career Development also hosts events like the landmark “Dress to Impress,” a biannual program where students can get a free outfit for interviews!
Keep an eye out for their advertisements for local work opportunities, such as the Career and Internship Fair on Nov. 13!
Academic Success & Advising Center
The Academic Success & Advising Center is the primary resource for academic support at Centenary, and can be found in the Betts and Harris Smith Learning Center. Their team offers academic coaching on all of the skills you need to make the most of your classes, such as time management, goal setting, and study strategies.
Disability Services and the Office of Veteran Affairs also fall under the umbrella of Academic Success.
If you aren’t looking for a one-on-one session, you can attend one of their success strategy workshops! Each workshop is recorded and can be referenced here.
Student Activities
Food trucks, craft nights, shuttles, oh my!
Whether you need to take a break and connect with your friends or have a vision for an event you want to throw, Student Activities has got your back. Headed by Jamie Weingarten, this department hosts most of the festivities on campus.
Each event hosted on campus, whether it’s run by Student Activities or another Centenary organization, is listed on the Cyclone Calendar, which is updated daily. Every Monday, Jamie also sends out an email recapping the week’s upcoming events.
No matter what a successful fall term looks like for you, you can reach it. Here at Centenary, there are dozens of resources ready to help whenever and however you need.
Have a great semester!
