In a bold move aimed at paving the way for students to seamlessly transition into the world of four-year universities, Sussex County Community College (SCCC) joined forces with Centenary University to form the “SkyClones” (Skylanders and Cyclones) through a groundbreaking merger in the fall of 2021.
In an opinion piece written for NJ.com, Centenary’s President Dale Caldwell highlighted how the partnership allows Centenary and Sussex County students to build strong relationships with each other.
“It is providing residence life on Centenary’s campus for Sussex County Community College students, primarily football players,” Caldwell said.
“Our two institutions plan to work together on lifelong learning opportunities for academic affairs for residents of the Skylands Region,” Amy D’Olivo, vice president of academic affairs at Centenary, said.
The goal of the SkyClones partnership is to integrate local SCCC student-athletes into the CU community and allow them to experience life on a four-year campus. In addition, SCCC students have the opportunity to reside on campus.
The SkyClones partnership also allows for easy transfer of credits after two years at SCCC.
“We are very excited about the growing partnership between Sussex County Community College and Centenary University. [Students] taking part in residential opportunities will be able to begin absorbing the culture of the Centenary campus and partaking in specific amenities. We are proud to be a part of this important collaboration,” Kathleen Okay, senior vice president of Academic and Student Affairs at Sussex County, said.
