If you were looking for an opportunity to get to know Centenary University Greeks, Greek Week–lasting from January 27 to January 30–sprinkled around campus provided that opportunity.
“Greeks are Family,” said alumni sorority sister Onoshope Itunoya- Musa.
Centenary hosted six Greek organizations Alpha Theta Psi Sorority, Delta Xi Nu Multicultural Sorority, Inc., Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc., Omega Rho Fraternity, Theta Epsilon Nu Sorority, and Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity. Their activities sought to create interest for students to join in the Spring semester.
The week began with a tabling event in the David and Carol Lackland Center with members of Omega Rho Fraternity, including Jacoby Stewart, president of the Inner Greek Council Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity Inc. and Delta Xi Nu Multicultural Sorority. This event grabbed student’s attention in the cafeteria and tried to get them to come out to the Greek’s events and spread awareness.
Greeks gathered in the cafeteria and played the Jackbox game held at 8 p.m. on the big projector screen. The Jackbox game is a digital party game that includes trivia, role playing, and drawing, and is designed to be played with groups on smartphones, tablets, and in browsers.
On Tuesday, in the Reeves Gymnasium members of sorority Theta Epsilon Nu, Omega Rho Fraternity Inc., and Delta Xi Nu Multicultural Sorority Inc. gathered together in the gym to play a fun, non-competitive game of volleyball against students. Approximately, there were at least three to four members from every Greek organization that came to support.
Greek Week concluded with a magical night, a semi-formal Snoball Dance held by student activities and the Greeks. This event was held in the Quiet Area of the Library. A DJ played all of the classic pop hits from the Cha Cha Slide to the Cupid Shuffle.
Students had loads of fun taking pictures in the photobooth and just dressing up enjoying themselves. As a graduating senior, this was the last Snoball with friends and sorority sisters; I was a little sad, but it was worth it!
Greeks from Delta Xi Nu Multicultural Sorority worked the event together. Taylor Lavin, Katelyn Shaw, and Lauren Mumford worked to make sure that everything went smoothly.
If you’re interested in joining a Greek organization, be sure to keep an eye out for the next tabling event.
