A special screening of “House of White Spiders” was hosted by Centenary University’s Taylor Memorial Library (TML) on Nov. 15. The event invited Centenary students and Hackettstown residents to view the 2010 independent film, which was written, directed, and produced locally by Hackettstown native Gregg Taylor.
In an accompanying Q&A panel, Taylor recalled how he felt receiving a call from TML’s Director of Outreach and Engagement, Nick Ferrelli, about the library’s interest in his work.
“I was very amazed because I thought that the film had passed away peacefully, it was in the back of my closet, it was redundant,” Taylor explained. “He came along and breathed life into it again for a very wonderful night,”
Ferrelli worked in conjunction with Jerry Galante, the Director of the Hackettstown Public Library, in this initiative to amplify Hackettstown creatives like Taylor.
Fifty students and community members attended the showing, and all had ample praise for the film.
“It was very interesting, very nice visuals,” said Erin Cooper, CU freshman.
Callista McKeon, CU freshman, appreciated the charm that comes with independent filmmaking, stating, “The movie was great, I like how they didn’t use too much CGI so it looks realistic.”
The film is available for streaming online and for DVD purchase.
