Centenary University’s annual Involvement Fair took place on Sept. 14. It attracted a wealth of enthusiastic participants eager to enrich their campus experience by joining clubs and organizations. Student representatives were delighted to share their organizations’ contributions to campus life with their peers.
“Students get to explore their options at the Involvement Fair. The event emphasizes who and what the different organizations and clubs are all about,” said senior Onoshope Nora Itunoya-Musa, president of both the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the Delta Xi Nu Multicultural Sorority (DXN).
Approximately 81 students attended the event according to the host of fall semester’s Involvement Fair, Rashell Delacruz, head of clubs and organizations within Student Government Association (SGA).
“The objective of the Involvement Fair is to get students familiar and comfortable with the different clubs and organizations. The fair opens students’ eyes for opportunities,” Delacruz explained.
This semester’s fair featured 29 diverse clubs and organizations. From academic-focused groups like History Club, Kappa Delta Epsilon Education Honor Society, and Multilingual Club, to sports enthusiasts in athletic groups like Sports Management Association, Cheer Team, and Women’s Lacrosse, a wide range of interests were well-represented.
The event also highlighted the presence of six Greek organizations, along with integral student-event organizations such as SGA, Student Activities, and Leaders in Service.
“The event used to be called Club Fair, but since there are so many ways to get involved on our campus, it became Involvement Fair. This way, we can open it up to co-curriculars, service learning, academic and honor societies, and Greek opportunities,” said Tiffany Kushner, former Assistant Dean of Student Life.
“The Involvement Fair helps SGA better assist and promote the different programs that we work with,” Delacruz added.
SGA organized a paper-ticket raffle for students, awarding 30 winners with prizes, such as Applebee’s and GameStop gift cards.
“The fair is always a fun and interactive event. This year, there was a raffle, candy, and fliers. Plus, we can count on it being a nice day to be outside because it’s hosted in early fall,” said Itunoya-Musa. “The event has a way of bringing people together.”
