The Lady Cyclones stepped up to the plate with 11 wins and 4 losses against FDU-Florham Park in a non-conference game on a breezy and rainy afternoon at Tannery Field on Wednesday, Mar. 20 at 3 p.m.
It was a windy day, and the Cyclones were all prepared to face off against the Devils in their fourth doubleheader this season. Unfortunately, the incoming rain shower prevented the Cyclones and the Devils from competing twice.
Throughout the five innings of the game, the Cyclones demonstrated their best hitting ability against the Devils, earning six hits.
Jessica Burlew, Carolyn Rosenberg, Jaelynn Miller, and Madison Passanante helped the Cyclones make progress toward their victory.
During the first inning, Burlew doubled to right field, and Rosenberg scored on a wild pitch, giving the Cyclones a 2-0 lead over the Devils.
The Devils came up empty in the second and third innings. By the end of the third, Miller, Burlew, Rosenberg, and Passanante helped the Cyclones earn two runs off of three hits, giving them a 4-0 lead.
The Cyclones continued their winning streak against the Devils with six runs, one hit, and one error during the fourth inning.
At the end of the fifth inning, Miller led the Cyclones to victory with two more runs. The Devils struggled to take away the victory points, with only four hits and one error. As a result, the Cyclones won against the Devils 6-0.
Miller earned the win, improving her personal record to 9-0, with eight strikeouts and one walk.
“All of our athletes play an integral role in team performance and success,” said Kim Broking, head women’s softball coach.
“So far, the team is doing well,” said Chelsea Cordice, student at Centenary.
“We have four seniors who have done a great job of creating a cohesive team atmosphere,” added Broking.
As of this week, the Cyclones have an overall record of 11-4 and 2-0 in the Atlantic East Conference.
Congratulations on a tremendous season so far, Cyclones! The next contest will be in Doylestown, PA against Delaware Valley University for a doubleheader on Tuesday, Mar. 26. The opening pitch begins at 3 p.m.
