Once considered the underdogs, the Cyclones women’s lacrosse team has emerged from the shadows with a season that has exceeded expectations.
Following a disappointing 2023 season, Coach Alexandra Berdej knew it was time to transform the program. She instilled in the Lady Cyclones to believe in turning obstacles into opportunities and setbacks into successes.
As the 2024 season began, the team fostered a new culture of communication and support, creating a strong bond both on and off the field. “We are stronger together. Without a strong bond, what are we?” said Trista Hough, a midfielder on the team.
Now, as the season reaches its crescendo, the Cyclones continue to keep their eyes on the prize. Every player, from seasoned veterans to rising stars, understands the goal of winning games and making a playoff push.
The star of the show has been midfielder and defender Nora Dornich. With 35 total goals this season, she is top 10 in the Atlantic East Conference for scoring.
“It’s been a challenge, to be honest,” Dornich commented. “But I love being able to compete and to help my team win games.”
With their last game of the season creeping up against Gwynedd Mercy University, the women’s lacrosse team is looking to make their final push into the playoffs.
Their journey, filled with challenges and marked by triumphs, all comes down to the final showdown of the season. If they succeed, it will be the Lady Cyclones’ first time in the playoffs since joining the Atlantic East Conference.
