Centenary University men’s basketball team challenged Marywood University men’s basketball team at the John M. Reeves Recreational Center on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
Since this was the second game hosted during Centenary’s Senior Night event, the sell-out crowd was already inside the basketball court, boisterously cheering for Centenary’s success against Marywood.
Even though the Cyclones, under interim head coach, Chris LaBelle, rose to the challenge during this close game, the Pacers secured their victory.
The Pacers outmatched the Cyclones during the first half of the game. The Cyclones garnered 30 points at the end of the first half, but the Pacers outscored the Cyclones by 16 additional points.
Despite this rocky start, the Cyclones refused to back down. As the second half of the game progressed, Centenary added 48 points to their tally, receiving praise from the crowd.
Brendan Franko and Mason Mendygral each had 21 points for the Pacers. This allowed Marywood to secure the victory, acquiring almost half the team’s points.
Despite the 78-88 loss, Preston Naire and Shawn Falk tossed in 19 and 18 points, respectively.
“We were so close to winning,” said Billy Winz, senior at Centenary.
The men’s overall record is now 2-22.
Go, Cyclones!
