Centenary University women’s basketball team tested their strength against Penn State Lehigh Valley at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. Rose Haller, head basketball coach, appreciated the hard work the Cyclones demonstrated during the preseason scrimmage.
There were about 100 spectators cheering for the Cyclones when they faced the Nittany Lions. There were multiple instances of squeaking from the basketball court as the scrimmage progressed. Urban contemporary music was blasted loudly during each break, potentially hurting the attendees’ ears.
During the game, the Cyclones maintained a consistent victory record against the Nittany Lions. At the end of the first two quarters, the Cyclones scored 19 points, ultimately reaching 38 points.
The scrimmage between the Cyclones and the Nittany Lions intensified during the third and fourth quarters, with the Cyclones successfully making 32 more basketball shots.
The Cyclones won the preseason scrimmage 70-52.
Centenary staff were very proud of the team’s ability to play to the best of their ability.
“I expect a lot of passion and teamwork out of the women’s basketball team this year,” said Jake McMullan, assistant men’s basketball coach. “Wishing them the best of luck and I will be along for the ride the whole way.”
“The women’s basketball team has definitely matured a bunch from last year,” said Chris LaBella, head men’s basketball coach. “I hope they just continue to take that next step, communicate well with each other, and do their best on both offense and defense.”
Since this was a preseason game, there were no official statistics released. The cumulative statistic for the women’s basketball team is currently 0-0.
The 2024-25 women’s basketball season officially began with the Cyclones battling Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, Nov. 9.
Way to go, Cyclones!
