Centenary University’s women’s soccer team defeated Lehman College 4-0 at J.E. Reeves Jr. Field on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, at 1 p.m. This was the first of two home games played during Senior Day and Alumni and Family Day.
On one of the warmest autumn days of the year, 350 cheering spectators attended the game. Behind the field, four bouncy houses stood, with yellow, blue, and silver balloons attached to the metal fences.
Adding to the excitement of the game were two food trucks, offering spectators hot dogs, burgers, nachos, and ice cream.
Senior members, defender Ashley D’Allesandro and midfielders Eve Haddad and Catherine Morgan, led the Cyclone against the Lightning Bugs.
The Cyclones delivered a consistent performance. Freshman wide-forward Jenna Magrino scored the first goal at the end of the period, assisted by junior midfielder Lesly Carillo-Garcia.
The second period saw the Cyclones extend their lead. After a series of corner kicks and shots on goal, they ended the period by garnering three more goals. Junior striker Liliana Flores scored twice, including one from a penalty kick, while junior midfielder Jessica Smith added another. Magrino and Haddad assisted Flores and Smith, respectively.
Lehman College managed only two shots on goal, thanks to Centenary’s superb defense.
The game concluded with a 4-1 victory for the Cyclones.
“The win was definitely needed as a confidence booster before conference play started,” said head coach, Kevin Davies. “We created a lot more chances.”
“The women’s soccer team shows great skill in passing the ball,” said senior Dominick Zinna, a future baseball player.
“What I see from the women’s soccer team is a great showing of teamwork and unity,” added senior Greg Carrillo, a baseball outfielder and pitcher.
At this point, the Cyclones’ cumulative record stands at 4-6.
They played their first Atlantic East Conference tournament against Neumann University in Aston, PA, on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Way to go, Cyclones!
