Centenary University women’s volleyball team battled Albertus Magnus College at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. Despite the team effort, the Cyclones fell short 0-3.
56 spectators came to the game’s fun-filled action, anxiously watching the Cyclones play to the best of their ability against the Falcons. Outside of the basketball court was a festivity table, providing spectators with food and drinks.
The cheering from the team and spectators escalated as the tournament progressed.
Sophomore middle-blocker/outside hitter Jenny Thistlethwaite led the Cyclones with 12 kills.
Junior middle-blocker/right-side hitter Cameron Fulcher and freshman left player Alea Herman added four kills each.
Junior setter/middle-blocker/right-side hitter Kim Stallworth demonstrated two kills.
Junior setter/right-side hitter Vanessa Pagano made 19 digs and 19 assists.
After the first set of the match, the Cyclones garnered 19 points to the Falcons 25. After the second set, the Cyclones scored only 11 points. Unfortunately, in the third set, the Cyclones fell short with 23 points to the Falcon’s 25.
The intense competition concluded with the Cyclones losing 0-3.
“The team lacked confidence during the first half, but in the third period, they started to believe in themselves,” said Brooke Armida, head volleyball coach.
Senior defense specialist (DS) Isabel Moreira said, “Our teamwork was the best part of the game.”
“I think the team is doing a better job communicating with each other,” said junior D’Ani Morales, a basketball forward.
The cumulative record for the Cyclones is currently 4-18 overall and 0-2 in the Atlantic East Conference.
The team will travel to Scranton, PA, on Saturday, Oct. 26, to take on Marymount University and Marywood University at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively, as part of three back-to-back Atlantic East Conference games.
