Joker, a 2019 thriller movie starring Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, and Robert De Niro. The film was directed by Todd Phillips. Phillips is also known for directing comedy films including Old School, The Hangover, and Starsky and Hutch.
Phoenix plays Arthur Fleck, a man who lives with his mother in Gotham City. He is a professional clown trying to become a stand-up comedian. He often feels like he’s ignored by people in the world. Throughout the film, he is slowly transformed into a criminal known as the Joker. It’s such a good story that shows an innocent person turn into a crazy maniac.
De Niro plays Murray Franklin, a famous TV host that Fleck and his mom watch on television. Brett Cullen plays Thomas Wayne, a famous billionaire trying to run for mayor of Gotham. It was a massive success, being the sixth highest-grossing film of 2019. It was a box office success and grossed about $1.9 billion. It was also the first live action Batman-related movie to be rated R.
I saw the movie in theaters with my mom when it came out in 2019 and we loved it! We both got so scared at some parts especially with the blood and gun shooting scenes.
The Plot
I don’t want to spoil the movie too much, but I will talk about the main plot. The film is about Fleck as he lives a troubled life in Gotham. He also has a love interest named Sophia Dumond, a single mom and neighbor at their apartment. Arthur works as a professional clown and he gets fired after bringing a gun to a children’s hospital. He then tries to become a stand up comedian at a club, but it doesn’t go too well for him.
Conclusion
Overall, I would definitely recommend this movie for anyone who is a fan of DC or thriller movies. The actors did such a good job. I think it’s an awesome movie with great acting and a very good story. However, the movie is pretty scary and has many scenes with blood and gun shootings. I think it’s more of a thriller than a superhero film.
