Reminders of Him movie cover (Source: Epic Theatres).
Based on the novel by Colleen Hoover, Reminders of Him, the film was released in theatres on March 13, 2026. I will be giving my afterthoughts of the movie and the emotional connection I felt to the film.
This film is about a woman named Kenna who gets out of prison for a crime she did not commit. The crime is the killing of her boyfriend when they were both intoxicated in the car. She was falsely accused and sentenced to seven years in jail. When she gets out, she has some twists and turns with people she knew before and meets some people from her ex—Scotty’s—life.
She also loses her daughter from being in prison and Scotty’s family takes care of them, as she lost the right to take care of her. The film will go through all those events with many emotions brought to you throughout.
My Review of the Movie:
I went into the movie having no expectations except for it to be emotional.
What I really enjoyed about this movie—which my boyfriend also finds interesting—is that it does not drag on; the movie goes slow and is really detailed. There are some flashbacks from when the main character was in jail, but not too many, which I like because it is following the story and moving forward in her life and not going backwards.
This movie focuses on her future more than her past, which is a nice look at how people should look at life: more of the present and future than the sadness of the past. The author also really uses the personality traits of the characters to help the audience learn about them more instead of their actions, which is different from most.
Learnings from the Film
What I really got out of this movie is love and forgiveness. People always fight with their loved ones, especially for something like accidentally killing a son or a best friend. But I realized in the film that no matter what, you will always love someone regardless of what they did; you have to learn to love them for their mistakes or nothing good will ever grow.
Rating
I give Reminders of Him a 5.5 Cyclones. I really very much enjoyed it and would watch this film 10 times over. There is something about the emotion that was put into this film that makes me gravitate towards these characters and I applaud the author for that.
