The urge to feast American is ever present. And who doesn't like burgers, wings and pizza. With feasting in mind, I stopped at Marley's Gotham Grill, so I could try some food for you. Located at 169 Main Street, you can walk from your dorm, or your apartment, and get some great food.
Maybe you’ve heard of this spot. I mean, they are known for their 350 wing flavors including some wing dingers such as suicide, chili lime, the Godfather, hot barbecue, Jack Daniels, and more! But that's not even all. The extended menu with all the comfort foods and late night snacks you love such as a variety of sandwiches, burgers, tacos, onion rings, and fried calamari is all there to be ordered. That's crazy to think about how they have that all in stock. Get some exercise because a quick 15 minute walk from Centenary’s campus, or a 5 minute drive, could put you right here.
When I walked in, I was greeted very warmly. It was a lively place, with great decor such as the classic bar style theme with dark wood counters, tv’s everywhere you look and the favorite neon signs. The atmosphere was very welcoming. They had inside seating, and also outdoor seating, although maybe not this time of year. Although I did not sit down, I placed an order to go. So even if you’re busy but want a great meal, you can always order online, or call on the phone and the staff will help you out and go above and beyond.
When I arrived, my order was ready. It smelled amazing and was hot and fresh. I almost started eating while driving but had to contain myself. With my classic taste buds, I ordered the barbecue wings and also got a basket of fries on the side, with of course, a side of ranch. There's no possible way to eat wings without ranch.
When I was finally able to dig in, the barbecue flavor exploded and immediately gave my stomach the food it craved. Savory and sweet, everything you expected from your favorite barbecue sauce. This is a great flavor that complimented the wings and wasn’t over or under bearing. The chicken was fresh and tender, seasoned great and crispy. Even with great wings, your ranch or favorite dipping sauce could make or break the experience. Well, the ranch was also incredible. It was light, flavored with herbs, and tasted like it was just made. The basket of fries was also fantastic. They were crispy and soft on the inside. Classic perfection.
Although the food was banging, there was only one downside for me: the price. Although the taste and quality of the food does justify the price, it is kind of expensive for a student on a budget. Coming in at $18.95 just for a dozen wings and over $8 for a basket of fries, the total put me over $30.
Overall, I think it was first class. The food was outstanding. It was a convenient location with street parking right out front in the heart of Main St., with a nice inside. A big plus for me is that the staff was friendly. Although it may be a bit pricey, I think it's a must-try place to treat yourself.
