I’ve tried many delis around Hackettstown, but many of them were not a great solution to my hunger needs. I won’t name the deli’s as many people enjoy them, but that’s because they have not tried Cozy Corner Bagel & Deli. Down on 516 Willow Grove Street, you can get the best breakfast or lunch food in town. Although it is not on Main Street you will need a car, this is a must-try deli.
With a drive of less than 10 minutes from campus and a 4.6 star rating on google, you could be at the place of perfection. This place isn’t anything new to me as I have been going for years since I've been at Centenary. Grab yourself anything from a bacon egg and cheese, a cold sub, a hot sub such as a cheesesteak, macaroni salad, soups, little desserts like coffee cakes and even occasionally tacos as a special-of-the-day. That packed menu could have you standing for minutes while you debate on what to get.
Place an order online or in person and they will have quick service for you. When you walk in, it's that classic deli look. From the drink refrigerator and coffee bar, to the chips rack and the meat in the glass case; it really does make you feel comfortable as you know it’s going to be good. The owners of the place are also very engaging and friendly, sparking up a conversation and making you feel like you knew them for your whole life. Unfortunately, if you want a sit-down place, Cozy Corner only has one table. It's a grab-and-go restaurant.
Now enough of that, you’re reading this for the food. My go-to breakfast there is a bacon, egg and cheese with salt and pepper on a sesame bagel which only costs around $5. Something you can’t go wrong with. I don’t know how they do it, but the bacon is crispy and soft at the same time and the exact way I like it. It’s kind of hard to describe. It's that salty and sweet taste that we love with that juicy flavoring. The eggs are cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly. I don’t usually stand up and applaud for cheese because, well… It's cheese. But I will stand up and aplaude for the cheese they use as it's the best tasting, freshest and the most high quality cheese I've eaten on a bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich. Also unlike the other delis in Hackettstown, this place has the highest quality bagels I’ve indulged in. They’re soft and taste better than others. I need to know what they use so I can replicate it at home.
When I can’t get my hands on a bagel as they usually sell out before noon because people have great taste going here, I get an italian sub. If you want a bagel after reading the last paragraph, you might change your mind to a sub. With great prices for a half coming in around $6 and a whole coming in around $11, you can’t beat that. They pack the sub as if it's a clown car making it the best bang for the buck. The half easily feeds one person and a whole will satisfy you and a friend. Cozy Corner uses the best sub bread, similar to the bagels, which you can use like a pillow since they’re soft. But then the meat is something else. Cozy Corner uses high quality deli meat, which the flavor pops in your mouth on every bite. It’s not wet, which some delis had which was very weird, and doesn’t taste like an old carpet as they always have a new batch for the best taste experience.
Overall, this is my favorite deli and I will always be going back. Grab your car and get on the road. I’m telling you, you won’t regret it. Prices are amazing, and the food is astonishing.
