Juice Wrld, Rapper from XXL Mag (Photo by Unknown).
It’s been a year and a half since I have become a Juice Wrld fan, so I figured I should do a top 10 Juice Wrld song review to show my appreciation for him as a human being and artist.
Juice Wrld aka Jarad Anthony Higgins was a very popular rapper who sadly died in 2019. He was big for his time because of his lyrics about his personal life and struggle with drugs.
His music has affected me in numerous ways, making me feel more aware of my own feelings at certain times and making my feelings about life feel validated. Growing up, I never really liked rap until I found Macklemore and then along the way during my first year of college, I found Juice Wrld and immediately got hooked.
This review will spotlight songs from all of his albums. It excludes his most recent album, released posthumously in 2024, that I personally did not like that much. I will be going from 1-10 of my top favorites of his songs.
Candles (Goodbye and Good Riddance)- This song from his album Goodbye and Good Riddance is basically about his heartbreak and how his girlfriend ruined their relationship. “I don’t know if it’s cuz my heart hurts or cuz I’m insecure.”
Legends (Fighting Demons)- This song has a really sad tone, but it is very true. Juice is speaking on how many of the music legends he has enjoyed died because of drugs. At this time, he was putting out into the universe that he hopes he does not end up like them, when sadly he did die from an overdose. I see that too and it is very sad. This song is one of his best based on the lyrics for me. “All legends die in the making.”
Make Believe (Death Race for Love)- This song is about how he felt like his relationship was make-believe the whole time since his girlfriend just left him for no reason. He feels that love is make-believe and not real. My favorite part of the song is the melody and beat; I can listen to it for an hour and not get tired of it. “My crazy thoughts and your crazy heart.”
All Girls are the Same (Goodbye and Good Riddance)- “All Girls are the Same” is self explanatory, showing how Juice feels that women and every relationship has been the same with his heartbreaks. “Tell me what’s the secret to love; I don’t get it.”
Conversations (Legends Never Die)- This is a Juice song I have always loved. It is about life and how sometimes he feels like it doesn’t mean anything, and he isn’t going anywhere, which people can relate to. “He has not a care in the world, no I’m lying.”
Sometimes (Fighting Demons)- Most of this song contains the word lonely, and it really puts the emphasis on how he felt his whole life and I appreciate the vulnerability that he really adds to all his songs. “I put in work by my lonely.”
Smile (featuring the Weeknd)- This is a soft song about being in a relationship on and off and wanting his ex to be happy and okay, even if they are not together. It’s a very well wishing song. I love the addition of the Weeknd; I think their voices complement each other. “ I want you to prosper and come proper even if I’m not by your side.”
Rich and Blind (Fighting Demons)- This song's lyrics stick out to me because like I had said before his vulnerability drew me to his music. What he is saying is how people see him but how he sees himself is different. “A lost soul rich and blind.”
Bandit (with Young Boy Never Broke Again from Death Race for Love)- To me, this is just a song to jam to and it is about how, in his relationship, he is a bandit because he stole her heart. Easy enough to understand, but the beat is so good. “Stole her heart; I’m the definition of a bandit.”
Fine China (With Future from WRLD on Drugs)- This song is not really about anything but being in love with some provocative lyrics. Like the last song, I love this beat and it is massively catchy. “Tell her she’s beautiful every day, I remind her.”
While I went over all those songs, I realized how introspective his writing is and I really love it. Juice Wrld will always be a very special artist to me, because his music has been there with me through the highs and lows. Juice Wrld will live on forever.
I give Juice Wrld’s music a 5.5 stars because of how comforting it is to me and how amazing each song is.
