Poppy Playtime Chapter 2: Fly in a Web had to live up to the massive success of the first game. With its new main antagonist, Mommy Longlegs, and an extensive environment, is Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 a worthy installment to the Poppy Playtime franchise?
Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 is a single-player puzzle mascot horror game developed by Mob Entertainment and released in May 2022. With a terrifying runtime of three hours, Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 can be played on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Windows, and Mobile.
Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 is how sequels should be done. It took the idea proposed in its 20-minute predecessor and expanded on the story, the characters, and the setting.
Chapter 2 starts right where you left off in Chapter 1. In chapter 2, without revealing too much about the two games, a character that was once your enemy becomes an ally and leads you through the Playtime Co. factory, helping you unveil new secrets.
Like the first game, the puzzles are just as good and are at that perfect sweet spot of not being too hard or too easy. Chapter 2 is separated into three different sections (all of which are twisted versions of childhood games; Simon, Wack-a-Mole, and Red Light Green Light). These three sections are different puzzles. All of these puzzles give you clues on how to escape the factory. It sounds easy until you find yourself being stalked by the new main antagonist, Mommy Longlegs.
Mommy Longlegs replaces the beloved Huggy Wuggy, but don’t worry, he’s still around, lurking and waiting for the right moment to strike…
Just like the first game, there is no moment to take a breath and relax; there’s always a scare waiting for the player. The atmosphere and design of Chapter 2 is like Chapter 1 on a bigger scale. Chapter 1 is twenty minutes long and confined to a small space within the factory. Chapter 2- with its much bigger budget- has a four-hour runtime, which is complemented by its larger location.
There’s only one downside to Poppy Playtime Chapter 2: it's so good that it makes the first game look like a tutorial. And just like the first game it ends on a major cliff hanger, enticing you to play chapter 3.
Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 solidified the series as a decent contender in the mascot horror video game genre. The first game set an expectation of great graphics, challenging puzzles, and plenty of scary moments. Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 met those expectations and set an even higher bar for the games to follow.
