A holiday tradition that my family has done for over 21 years is a Christmas party the Saturday before Christmas. I grew up all around this tradition that has been passed around through generations. It is something to look for all year because I got to see my entire family.
The family comes up from different states to come to this party. When preparing for this tradition, we have to order food for the house and on the day of the party, we have to pick up all the food.
Now, when the party starts, the house is filled up with family and friends, people who have known each other for decades, catching up and seeing how everyone's been doing.
When everyone's done eating, for at least a moment, we have time to play Christmas trivia. The one question we would ask is: The movie, Miracle on 34th Street, is based on a real life department store. What is it? The answer would be Macy’s.
Giving all the guests a question they can answer to win a lottery ticket if they get the question correct. After that, we do a grab bag in which is adults only and each adult will get a gift to take home.
After this, we serve dessert and then play board games at one table and some people play poker at a different table. This is the end of the party. Everyone leaves and goes their separate ways.
This tradition means a lot to me. It is not only a chance to see family and friends; it gives us a chance to hangout and celebrate the holidays together. It's the one time of the year everyone in the family is in the same place hanging out. This tradition has been in the family for generations and I am hoping that I can keep this tradition for many more generations. A time to see family, spend time, and catch up with family members. There is no other time of year that can compete with Christmas.
