My Trip to Colossalcon East 2026

September marks the beginning of the school year for students; but for me it also marks the start of an annual convention trip. Colossalcon East took place September 10–13, 2026 in the Kalahari Resort in the Poconos. Since becoming a journalism student, the convention has given me an opportunity to have a press badge, and report my findings from the con’s activities.

Kalahari Resort does a good job with the decorations, as all of their restaurants are decorated to match the theme of the con. One of the restaurants was covered in Super Mario decorations, and the waterpark food bar was galaxy and space themed. 

As a journalism student, it is good to be curious and explore all this con has to offer. From a video game arcade, to cosplay events, fun panels, and nightly lobby parties, this con is a great way to kick off the semester. If you are a fan of Cyclone Con here on campus (Returning April 10, 2027!) this is an event to check out.

While exploring the convention, some highlights caught my eye. One special part that really makes conventions is the amount of incredible cosplayers. Everybody looked amazing this year and a lot of talent is put into this hobby. There are also performance and craftsmanship competitions that go up to master level. Throughout the weekend, I was able to ask cosplayers for pictures. 

There's always some type of fun event happening during this con, with some things being unexpected. From people wearing banana costumes playing the saxophone, to inflatable Capybara costume parades, the night life of the con always keeps me curious. For anyone who's curious and looking for a fun pop culture themed weekend, grab your friends and check out this event in 2027!
