Student Activities brought a group of 29 students to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey to watch the New Jersey Devils take on the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025.
The environment was electric as the puck dropped and Devils fans cheered on the home team.
Nicholas Storms, sophomore Communication major, was ecstatic to be in attendance at his first ever hockey game.
“It was a great experience, I love the opportunity of watching different sports,” said Storms. “You look at yourself and don't open up to other sports, but what you don't realize is that you don't have a sense of variety. People who do have a sense of variety are the people who are looking for opportunities to look successful.”
As the night continued throughout the second half of the match, no fights erupted, but the energy around the stadium kept the fans in the game.
The game ended in a loss with the Devils losing 3-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights.
After the game, the excitement continued as students were granted access onto the ice for a group picture.
“Maybe one year they can have players on the ice to give us a handshake,” said Victoria Autocunas, sophomore social work major. “We always take pictures on the ice but without players. I will say, if they did win, the environment would have been different. For my first professional hockey game, it was a great time.”
