Karaoke Night Kicks Off Welcome Week

A quiet night turned into a packed, energetic karaoke event. On Wednesday, Aug. 26, Student Activities hosted a thrilling karaoke event, with 35 students attending and brave enough to sing at the microphone. 

The vibe of the event was great. Students laughed, sang many trending songs, and supported each other. The most interesting part of karaoke night this year was that our participants mixed up the genres;  hip hop, R&B, Alternative, and Spanish/Latino music. 

“I really enjoyed this event; it brought the Centenary community together, and I’m looking forward to another one,” said freshman Chris Selbay.  

Even though some students were anxious to sing, they were still able to conquer their fears and entertain our audience by singing their hearts out. Coming towards the end,  even had students performing old-school artists like Biggie Smalls, Michael Jackson, and Tupac Shakur, as well as popular songs from movies. 

“The turnout for this event was incredibly shocking. My crew and I were setting up, and thought we’d only have four participants. Turns out we had way more than that, and that’s a great start to the semester,” said junior Franklin Burgos. 

After this successful event, all the participants gained confidence to perform and honor their favorite artists they grew up listening to.

“Sing your heart out like there’s nobody around, cause when people are around, we shine the brightest. We're definitely looking forward to hosting this again and had a great time hosting alongside Nick Storms," said senior Miguel Baldwin.
