The Academic Success Office offers academic support for all students. This includes tutoring, academic coaching, accessibility services, and accommodations. The Tutoring Center currently staffs six professional tutors and five peer tutors. Tutors can help with general academic success skills, but each tutor has specific subject matter expertise, such as math, psychology, science, and more.
Most common reason for visit:
Students commonly visit our office for tutoring and accommodations.
Most students don't know:
Our tutors can also help with time management, study skills, and organization in addition to course content.

Location:
I work in the Accessibility Services Office, located in the Harris & Betts Smith Learning Center (attached to the library). Presently, I am the sole point of contact. Therefore, please contact: accessibilityservices@centenaryuniversity.edu. Once we have more than one person in the office, this will continue to be the shared inbox for all of us.
Most common reason for visit:
Acommodations—both academic and housing—based on documented disability needs. We currently support over 230 students, including 14 from Sussex County Community College. Over 140 students receive academic accommodations and over 130 receive housing accommodations.
Most students don't know:
Accommodations through ASO are backed by the federal government. The Americans with Disabilities Act covers accommodations not just in school, but—provided they do not fundamentally alter the essential nature of the job—the ADA applies in the workplace as well!
Quote:
“I currently process every application for housing or academic accommodations, generate every letter of accommodation, and field questions for more than 230 students receiving accommodations. I manage a caseload of 25 Access+ students with weekly meetings that cover everything from academic coaching, check-ins, building self-advocacy skills, and even resume and interview guidance as they get ready to graduate.” (Dennis Higgins)

Academic Success helps students navigate challenges that may affect their success at Centenary. We provide academic coaching, progress-report outreach, connections to tutoring and campus resources, and support for students who may be considering a leave of absence or withdrawal. Basically, when college starts “college-ing,” we help students figure out their next move.
Most common reason for visit:
One of the most common questions we receive is about academic accommodations...how to request them, what documentation is needed, and how to use approved accommodations in class.
Most students don’t know:
They do not have to be failing or wait until everything is on fire to contact us. We can help early with organization, time management, communicating with professors, and finding the right campus resources.
Quote:
“College can be challenging, but students don’t have to figure it all out alone... sometimes a good academic success plan really can change your life…or at least save your semester!” (Sasha Jackson)
