Counseling: counseling for students: individuals and couples; crisis assistance; daily walk-in hours from 12–1 p.m. during fall and spring semesters; drug and alcohol assessments; psychiatric evaluations and medical management for clients; outreach programming on a variety of mental health topics; provide training and consultation to students, student leaders, faculty, and staff.
Most common inquiry from students
Health: sick students (acute illnesses), STD testing, contraception, immunization.
Counseling: mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression, as well as relationship concerns.
Most students don't know this about the department:
Health: The Wellness Center services—health services and the counseling center—are free to students. There is a wellness fee built into tuition, so students do not need to pay anything when visiting the center.
Counseling: We offer EMDR , an evidence-based treatment that can help students process traumatic or distressing experiences that continue to affect their emotional well-being. Offering this specialized service on campus allows eligible students to receive this support in a familiar and accessible setting.
Quote:
“You can’t be successful at school, academics, or sports if you’re not well physically and mentally.” (Theresa Lord-Stout)
“Many students don’t realize how many of their peers come to the Counseling Center—athletes, first-generation students, LGBTQIA+ students, commuters, and students from all across campus. You don’t have to be in or near a crisis to come for help. We support students with everyday concerns such as stress, relationships, and motivation, as well as mental health concerns. Reaching out early can often prevent a manageable concern from becoming overwhelming.” (Mikolaya Nynka)
