Dr. Carol Barnett: Associate Professor and Writing Collaboratory Faculty Director

Location: Lower level of the Taylor Memorial Library

Staff: A group of 11 peer tutors led by Dr. Barnett

Functions/Description: 

The Writing Collaboratory offers all Centenary students the opportunity to work one-on-one with trained peer tutors on writing of any kind, at any stage in the process. Fall 2026 hours are Monday through Thursday, 12–4. Peer tutors have studied the practice and philosophy of peer tutoring and come from a variety of backgrounds and majors. 

Most common visit/concern: 

Students often seek guidance on details of using MLA or APA documentation styles in academic essays, genre conventions for academic assignments including Annotated Bibliographies and Literature Reviews, clear expression of main ideas, and review of a final draft. 

Most students don’t know: 

Most students don't know there are guidelines from MLA and APA about using AI ethically in academic writing.
