Centenary University women’s lacrosse team tied 5-5 with the Gators of Notre Dame of Maryland University at the J.E. Reeves Jr. Field on Saturday, Mar. 23.
It was one of the wettest Saturday afternoons, with nowhere outside to hide. The overwhelming amount of rainfall covered the sky, forcing the spectators to cheer for the Cyclones with raincoats and umbrellas.
As a result of the inclement weather, the game ended after its first two quarters. During the first quarter of the game, the Cyclones gained two goals, while the Gators outscored them with three.
By the end of the second quarter, the Cyclones had persevered by collecting three more goals, adding five to their tally. The Gators managed to garner two more goals, allowing them to collect five.
When the tension between the Cyclones and the Gators was about to continue, the rainfall caused the second half of the game to be called off. Consequently, the Cyclones earned 5-5, neither securing their victory against nor losing to the Gators. As a result, this game was not recorded in the record books.
One of Centenary’s key players involved in this groundbreaking tie was Nora Dornich, who secured three goals and forced three turnovers. Dyani Alonso and Emily Hotz also helped the Cyclones by shooting one goal each.
“As a team, we do a really good job of analyzing ourselves and the situation,” said Alex Berdej, Centenary women’s softball head coach. “From there, we can make adjustments as needed, which is our team strength.”
This season, the lacrosse record for the Cyclones so far is 3-2 overall, and 0-0 in the Atlantic East Conference.
The Cyclones’ visit to Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York on Tuesday, Mar. 26 has been postponed. The next home game is on Saturday, Mar. 30 against Delaware Valley at 1 p.m. Come out and support the Cyclones!
